Job description
Role & responsibilities

1. The person should understand student requirements concerning what he /she wants to learn and help them access and work with information to generate and/or answer an inquiry question.
2. The person should have the skills to locate and access information on whatever topic may have been chosen by the student for EE (or IA).
3. Able to teach how to journey from the vague stirrings of an interest in a topic to a carefully researched, tightly argued, and appropriately sourced and referenced essay.
4. Shaping the IB Extended Essay process- the librarian needs to be the specialist in inquiry. By understanding how the inquiry process works, he/she can guide our students more effectively through it.
5. Teaching students how to think and learn independently how to find, access, interrogate, assimilate, evaluate information, and transform it into knowledge for themselves.
6. With technology finding its way to the hands of our children, its important to teach them Digital Citizenship (Common Sense Media Guidelines) as a part of their library classes.
7. IB librarians must play many roles that are not limited only to the library or reading. They should support teachers and collaborate with them to conduct the inquiry. They collaborate with the homeroom teachers and single subject teachers to understand their needs and accordingly provide or make available resources.
8. Act as Program Administrator - As program administrator, the school librarian works collaboratively with members of the learning community to define the policies of the school library program, and to guide and direct all activities related to it. Conducting ongoing action research and evaluation that creates data that is used to inform continuous program improvement.
9. Preparing, justifying, and administering the school library program budget to support specific program goals.
